just enjoyed a much needed getaway with arielle - shared some laughs over a glass of wine and some crème brûlée.  it was great to have some down time to just laugh and talk with a good friend. things have been going well up here so far - i feel like our kids have really gotten a lot out of it - but part of my heart has definitely been in richmond while i’ve been here.  i really wish i could...

friends, i beg you to pray for a friend of mine from church.  she has a very rare form of cancer and things are not going as we had hoped.  please pray for healing, and pray for her and her husband’s hearts as they go through this together.  they are an incredible example of what it means to trust in the Lord despite their circumstances.  pray for peace and comfort and healing.

“many of our anxieties can be reduced to one question, ‘what if i can’t handle it?’ your mind is the battlefield where victory is won or lost. so ask yourself, ‘would i still be anxious if i knew for certain i could handle anything that came up?’ the answer is no. anxiety can’t immobilize you and steal your joy when you know you can handle whatever...

“now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building form God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.” - 2 corinthians 5:1 … “the words of Jesus during His last days on earth vividly express His desire to go “back to the Father” (john 16:28).  we, as His people, also have a vision of something far beyond the...

key inspiring ingredient: asian pears this was another simple and surprising recipe suggested by dominion harvest - i enjoyed these with ashley and brandon while working on my bike! again, very simple - sliced the pears in halves and roasted them cut side down with balsamic vinegar and butter, and once they were heated through, took them out and topped them with goat cheese, honey, and freshly...

the words “i” and “love” and “you” are the watermark of humanity.  strung together, they convey our deepest sense of humility, or power, of truth.  it is our most common sentiment, even as the feeling of it is so infinitely uncommon; each to proclaim these three words with his or her very own heart and mindset of reason (or lack thereof); a proclamation...

revival tour last night was so tight.  $13 well spent.  chuck ragan, jim ward, tim barry, dave hause, and jenny owen youngs, and john gaunt on the fiddle [ridiculous] and digger barnes on the upright bass.  they started off playing all together and then some of the artists did their own sets.  there were a couple songs that everyone played together that blew my mind.  and the fiddle player - holy...

“we are to take everything to God - little things, very little things, even what the world calls trivial things.  yes, we are to take everything, living all day long in holy fellowship with our heavenly Father and our precious Lord Jesus. we should develop something of a spiritual instinct, causing us to immediately turn to God when a concern keep us awake at night.  during those sleepless...

dominion harvest inspired meal #6: bok choy and...
key inspiring ingredient: bok choy for the couscous  - boiled the appropriate amount of water and added vegetable bouillon, sesame oil, a little bit of chile paste, and some chives, then added the couscous and let it sit.  in the mean time, i blanched the bok choy leaves and began to heat some sesame oil in a larger pan.  once the couscous was ready, i spooned some into each leaf and made small...

“the education of our faith is incomplete if we have yet to learn that God’s providence works through loss, that there is a ministry to us through failure and the fading of things, and that He gives the gift of emptiness.  it is, in fact, the material insecurities of life that cause our lives to be spiritually established. … …one way or the other, we must all learn the...

just enjoyed a couple hours by the firepit, with edo’s brocoletti, cab suav, and listening phil wickham in the backyard on this fall night. perfect post camp reflection time. i’m experiencing a full range of emotions right now.  every time we have a camp weekend i am reminded of why i do what i do day in and day out, but this particular weekend really stirred something within me. ...

emelex: despite my years of involvement with comfort zone camp (both as a camper and a volunteer), this past weekend was totally different than anything i’ve ever experienced. my ‘little’ was amazing, and the perfect match for me, even though i had my doubts at first. never have i felt more of a personal connection and a level of personal concern for a camper. i know that it was amazing for her...

key inspiring ingredient: green bell peppers started off with the potatoes (bacchus took care of these), chopped up with some slices of onion, sprinkled with olive oil, and seasoned with salt, pepper, and garlic.  these roasted while we were cooking the rest of the food. for the peppers, we sauteed some onions, garlic, and chiles, and after these all got soft we added in some crushed tomato...
